Fortuna Town
The small and picturesque town of La Fortuna has changed quite dramatically from the village
that witnessed the eruptions of Arenal Volcano in 1968. Once a small agricultural community,
Fortuna has grown in the shadow of the colossus that once burned and devastated large areas
and today attracts eight out of every ten tourists who visit Costa Rica. Tourism is the
most important income of income in the region, as visitors come to explore the natural
beauty of the region. The surrounding areas still produce important crops of papaya,
sugar cane, tapioca, and ornamental plants.
